What Files Should You Include in an Etsy Digital Download?

Build a printable wall art bundle that is useful, clearly named, and simple for buyers to download and understand.

There is no single set of sizes every shop must include. Choose formats that fit your artwork and likely customers, then explain exactly what is inside the download.

What to include in an Etsy digital download

A strong printable wall art bundle gives the buyer the image formats they need without making them guess which file to use. For a typical instant-download listing, consider including:

  • Print files

One high-quality file for each useful aspect ratio or paper family you advertise.

  • Clear file names

Names that identify the artwork, format, and pixel dimensions.

  • A short instruction sheet

Optional, but helpful for explaining what is included and how to print.

  • Accurate listing details

A matching list of formats, supported sizes, file type, and any limitations.

Provide the formats you promise in the listing, and make sure each file opens correctly before uploading. Avoid adding near-duplicate files just to make the bundle look larger; a smaller, clearly explained set can be easier to use.

Which sizes and ratios should a printable wall art bundle include?

Start with the shape of the artwork, the frames your customers are likely to have, and the regions you serve. These are common printable formats, not a mandatory Etsy checklist. Offer a format only when the artwork looks good in that crop and has enough pixels for the print sizes you advertise.

FormatExample print sizesWhen it can be useful
2:34×6, 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30 inTall prints and many standard poster frames.
3:46×8, 9×12, 12×16, 18×24 inPortrait and landscape frames in a familiar art format.
4:54×5, 8×10, 16×20 inCommon photo and portrait frames.
5:75×7, 10×14 inSmall framed prints and greeting-size artwork.
11:1411×14, 22×28 inFrames made for the 11×14 proportion.
1:1 square8×8, 12×12, 16×16 inSquare compositions and square frames.
ISO A-seriesA5, A4, A3, A2, A1International paper sizes and customers using metric formats.

One ratio file can serve several physical print sizes when they share the same proportions, provided the file has enough resolution for the largest size you claim. For example, a 2:3 file can scale proportionally to 4×6, 8×12, or 12×18 inches. Buyers may need to choose “fit” or “fill” in their print dialogue, so tell them if the file may need a crop to fit a particular frame.

Check resolution before promising print sizes

Pixel dimensions determine how much image detail is available. A common target for detailed prints is 300 pixels per inch (PPI), often called DPI in print guides. At that target, an 8×10-inch print needs about 2,400×3,000 pixels. A 16×20-inch print needs about 4,800×6,000 pixels.

Cropping and zooming reduce the source pixels available for a particular output. Review every crop, check the pixel dimensions, and list a maximum print size that the exported image can support. Upscaling a small image does not reliably restore fine detail that was not present in the source.

ReZise shows export dimensions and a maximum print size at 300 DPI, and flags sizes that may not meet that target. Use that readout alongside a visual review of faces, lettering, borders, and fine details. It is a resolution check, not a guarantee of what every printer or paper will produce.

Use clear file names and organise the ZIP

A buyer should be able to tell files apart without opening each one. Use a short artwork name, a format label, and, when useful, the pixel dimensions. For example:

blue-botanical__ratio_2x3__4800x7200.jpg

blue-botanical__ratio_4x5__6000x7500.jpg

blue-botanical__iso_master_a2__4961x7016.jpg

These examples follow ReZise’s export naming pattern; exact pixel dimensions depend on the source artwork and crop. Keep names concise and consistent, avoid confusing abbreviations, and use the same labels in the listing description and any instruction sheet.

A simple bundle layout

  1. 1. One clearly named ZIP: include the selected print files together when the combined archive fits Etsy’s current upload rules.
  2. 2. Optional read-me: add a short PDF or text guide explaining included ratios, print-size examples, and how to unzip the download. Create this separately; ReZise’s export ZIP contains the selected image outputs.
  3. 3. Sensible grouping: if you supply separate archives, label them in plain language, such as “US ratios” and “ISO A sizes,” and explain which is which in the listing.

Before listing, download the final ZIP and extract it on your own computer. Confirm the archive opens, every expected file is present, and the names remain readable. Keep a backup of the delivered files outside the marketplace.

Make the download easy for buyers to understand

The listing description, file names, and included instructions should tell the same story. Before publishing, check that a first-time buyer can answer these questions quickly:

  • Which ratios and print dimensions are included?
  • What file type will they receive, and is it a digital item with no physical print shipped?
  • Which file should they choose for their frame or paper size?
  • What is the largest print size you recommend for each file?
  • How do they download and unzip the files on their device?
  • Where can they get help if they have a download or printing question?

Etsy’s current help guidance says instant-download listings can include up to five uploaded files, with a 20 MB maximum for each file; ZIP is among the supported file types. These limits can change, so check Etsy’s current requirements before publishing. If a single archive is too large, split the content into clearly named files or archives while staying within the platform’s limits.

Read Etsy’s digital listing help for current file types, upload limits, and buyer-download details.

Final pre-upload check: open the files, verify the intended ratio and crop, compare the pixel size to the promised print dimensions, and make sure your listing clearly describes exactly what the buyer receives.
