1. Find the purchase in your Etsy account
Instant-download files are usually available from Your Purchases as soon as Etsy confirms payment. Use a web browser, not the Etsy app:
- Go to Etsy.com and sign in. Select the small round account avatar at the top right, then open Your account.
- Go to Purchases or Purchases and Reviews, then find your order.
- Select Download Files next to the order. If the link is lower on the order page, scroll down to find it.
If you checked out as a guest, use the download link in your receipt email. If the item was made to order, the seller needs to finish it before the file is available.
If you cannot find the receipt, check your spam or junk folder and the email address used at checkout. If payment is still processing, the Download Files button may be gray until Etsy confirms it.
2. The download button is missing or won’t work
- Using the Etsy app? Etsy currently directs buyers to download digital purchases from a mobile browser or computer instead.
- Button is unavailable? Check whether payment is still processing or a made-to-order file is still being prepared.
- Clicking does nothing? Try Etsy.com in another browser or on a computer. If the download still does not start, review browser download settings and try again.
- Download is incomplete? Check your device’s available storage and internet connection, then download the file again.
Etsy’s help page has the latest account, guest-purchase, and download instructions. See How to Download a Digital Item.
3. Extract the ZIP before opening the art
A ZIP file is a compressed folder containing one or more files. Save the ZIP first, then extract it. On most computers you can double-click it or right-click and choose an extract option. On a phone or tablet, use the device’s file manager or a compatible archive app.
After extraction, open the image file inside the new folder. If the ZIP itself appears blank in your image viewer, that is expected: it is a container, not the artwork.
4. The extracted file will not open
Check the file extension and the listing description. A JPG or JPEG image needs an image viewer; another file type may need different software. Make sure the download finished and the ZIP was fully extracted. If the file appears corrupted, delete that copy and download it again.
If the artwork opens but appears too small or does not fit your frame, check the file’s ratio and dimensions against the listing. Printing software may automatically choose “fit” or “fill”; preview that setting before printing because it can add margins or crop image edges.

5. Contact the seller if the file is missing or incorrect
If the order page has no file, the archive is still broken after a fresh download, or the contents do not match the listing, contact the seller through Etsy Messages. Include the order, the filename, and a short description of the issue. Do not send passwords or payment details.
For account or marketplace problems that the seller cannot resolve, use Etsy’s current Help Center options for the order.
