Etsy Digital File Size Limits: How to Deliver Large Printable Files

Large, high-resolution printable bundles can be difficult to fit into Etsy’s digital upload limits. This guide explains the limits, ways to prepare a smaller Etsy-ready delivery, and the tradeoffs of hosting a larger bundle elsewhere.

What are Etsy’s digital file size limits?

Etsy’s current Help Center guidance for instant-download listings says sellers can upload up to five files, with a maximum of 20 MB per file. ZIP files are supported, but a ZIP is still one uploaded file and is subject to the same per-file limit.

Current listing limitMaximum
Files per instant-download listing5
Size of each uploaded file20 MB
ZIP filesSupported; each ZIP counts as one file

In theory, five files at the maximum could total 100 MB, but that does not mean one 100 MB ZIP can be uploaded. Each uploaded file must fit the per-file limit. Etsy can change its requirements, so confirm the current rules before publishing. Read Etsy’s digital listing help for current limits and supported formats.

Why printable wall art bundles can exceed the limit

A printable bundle may contain several large image files for different aspect ratios, plus an ISO A-series master or instructions. High pixel dimensions, less-compressed formats, and multiple variations all add to the total.

For example, a listing might offer 2:3, 3:4, 4:5, 5:7, 11:14, square, and A-series files. The final bundle size depends on the image dimensions, file format, and compression. Some bundles fit Etsy’s five-file limit directly; others do not.

Stronger JPEG compression or removing unnecessary duplicates may reduce file size. Check the result carefully, though: excessive compression can create visible artifacts. Keep the image quality your listing promises.

Start with Etsy-native delivery

Etsy’s built-in digital delivery is usually the simplest buyer experience when your product fits. Before using an external host, see whether you can make a clean bundle that stays within the platform’s limits without degrading the art.

  • Include only the ratios and sizes you describe in the listing.
  • Remove duplicate exports and working files buyers do not need.
  • Group files into ZIP archives, keeping each archive within the current per-file limit.
  • Optimize JPEG compression carefully, then inspect fine details and gradients.
  • Split the bundle across Etsy’s allowed uploads when each file fits.

Do not change the print dimensions or resolution claims simply to make the upload smaller. State clearly which sizes and formats are included.

Using a small PDF with a link to a larger bundle

Some sellers upload a small PDF containing instructions and a link to a customer-accessible folder hosted by a third-party storage provider. In that workflow, Etsy delivers the PDF; the buyer opens it and follows the link to download the larger files.

The delivery path

Etsy order → Etsy-hosted PDF → external file link → printable files

Basic setup

  1. 1. Make a product folder. Keep each listing’s customer files in a dedicated folder, separate from personal files and working originals.
  2. 2. Upload the finished bundle. Arrange the ratio files, A-series files, and instructions so a buyer can tell what each one is for.
  3. 3. Create a share link. Set permissions so a buyer can access the purchased files without needing your account. Check whether the link allows viewing or downloading as intended.
  4. 4. Test it while signed out. Open the link in a private browser window or another account. Confirm it reaches only the intended product files and that a buyer can download them.
  5. 5. Make a simple PDF. Explain that the purchase is a digital download, show the link prominently, list what is included, and tell the buyer to save the files after downloading.
  6. 6. Upload the PDF to the listing. Download and test the Etsy-hosted PDF yourself before publishing or updating the listing.

External hosting has tradeoffs to consider

A share link is not automatically private or secure. Depending on the provider’s settings, anyone who gets the link may be able to access or forward it. Use a dedicated product folder, do not expose unrelated files, and review the host’s current sharing, retention, bandwidth, and commercial-use terms.

The buyer also leaves Etsy’s download flow to access the files. That extra step can be confusing, and a link can expire or stop working if files are moved or permissions change. Keep the Etsy purchase and payment on Etsy, and review Etsy’s current policies before using an external destination to deliver a digital product.

Review Etsy’s Off-Platform Transactions Policy and the storage provider’s terms. Never ask buyers to pay outside Etsy or use an external link to redirect them to an off-Etsy purchase.

  • Do not link to your whole personal cloud account.
  • Share only the files the buyer purchased.
  • Do not include passwords or private account credentials in the PDF.
  • Keep an independent backup of your original artwork and delivered files.

Other file-hosting services

Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, and other services may provide share links, but their storage limits, access settings, expiration rules, and commercial terms differ. Check those details before choosing a provider. Do not assume a link will remain available indefinitely.

The same test applies whichever service you use: open the PDF as a buyer, follow its link while logged out of the host, download the files, and confirm the files open.

If your bundle is only slightly over the limit

First try to reduce unnecessary content, split a bundle into sensible files, or tune image compression without visible quality loss. Avoid reducing the artwork’s pixel dimensions or overstating what it can print sharply. A smaller, honestly described bundle is better than a large file that has been compressed until its quality suffers.

If a third-party delivery link is not right for your buyers, keep the listing within Etsy’s supported upload limits or consider a delivery setup that complies with Etsy’s current rules and suits your product.

How ReZise fits into this workflow

ReZise helps you create the printable image files in your bundle. Upload artwork once, select ratios and sizes, review each crop and resolution, then export the selected outputs together in a ZIP.

ReZise does not change Etsy’s upload limits or host the completed files for your buyers. If your export is too large for Etsy’s current file rules, organize delivery separately and make sure buyers know exactly how to access what they purchased.
