Standard Etsy printable ratios and when to use them
An aspect ratio describes an image’s shape, not its physical size. For example, 8×12 inches and 16×24 inches are both 2:3: the larger print is a scale-up of the same shape. These are common printable wall art formats, not a required Etsy list.

Two-to-threeTall portrait prints, photo proportions, and poster frames.
Examples: 4×6, 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 in
3:4 ratio
Three-to-fourPortrait artwork and frames such as 6×8, 9×12, and 18×24 inches.
Examples: 6×8, 9×12, 12×16, 18×24, 24×32 in
4:5 ratio
Four-to-fiveCommon photo and portrait frames, including 8×10 and 16×20 inches.

11:14 ratio
Eleven-to-fourteen11×14-inch frames and larger frames scaled from that same shape.
Examples: 11×14, 22×28 in
1:1 ratio
SquareSquare illustrations, portraits, and contemporary square frames.
Examples: 4×4, 8×8, 10×10, 12×12, 16×16, 20×20, 24×24 in
ISO A-series
International paper sizesA5 through A1 are used for standard paper and poster sizes across many countries. Their shared √2 shape lets one A-series artwork scale between sizes with minimal trimming.
Portrait and landscape use the same ratios with width and height swapped. A 2:3 portrait is 2 units wide by 3 high; its landscape version is 3 units wide by 2 high.

The table uses portrait orientation. Swap width and height for landscape; the pixel counts swap the same way. Some sizes are less commonly stocked than others, so confirm frame and lab availability for your customers.
ISO A-series print sizes and pixels at 300 PPI
ISO A-series dimensions are defined in millimetres. The centimetre values below are exact conversions; inches are approximate conversions rounded to three decimals. Pixel dimensions are rounded to the nearest whole pixel.
| Paper | Exact dimensions (mm) | Dimensions (cm) | Approx. dimensions (in) | Pixels at 300 PPI | Common use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A5 | 148 × 210 | 14.8 × 21.0 | 5.827 × 8.268 | 1748 × 2480 | Small prints, cards, and compact frames. |
| A4 | 210 × 297 | 21.0 × 29.7 | 8.268 × 11.693 | 2480 × 3508 | Everyday home and office printing. |
| A3 | 297 × 420 | 29.7 × 42.0 | 11.693 × 16.535 | 3508 × 4961 | Medium posters and wall art. |
| A2 | 420 × 594 | 42.0 × 59.4 | 16.535 × 23.386 | 4961 × 7016 | Large posters and statement prints. |
| A1 | 594 × 841 | 59.4 × 84.1 | 23.386 × 33.110 | 7016 × 9933 | Large-format posters and wall displays. |
A-series nominal sizes are listed in ISO millimetres. Small rounding differences between physical paper dimensions and whole-pixel image dimensions are normal.
US and oversize paper formats
These paper formats are useful for home printers and larger photo or fine-art printers. They are not interchangeable with the ratio families above, so keep them as separate files if your customers need the exact paper shape.
| Format | Print size (in) | Dimensions (cm) | Pixels at 300 PPI | Common use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| US Letter | 8.5 × 11 | 21.59 × 27.94 | 2550 × 3300 | Common US home and office printers. |
| US Legal | 8.5 × 14 | 21.59 × 35.56 | 2550 × 4200 | Longer US document and print layouts. |
| US Tabloid | 11 × 17 | 27.94 × 43.18 | 3300 × 5100 | Larger US posters and artwork sheets. |
| A3+ / Super B | 13 × 19 | 33.02 × 48.26 | 3900 × 5700 | Oversize photo and fine-art printer paper. |
How to choose printable wall art dimensions
Start with the frame
Choose ratios that match the frames and print sizes your buyers are likely to use. A file only scales cleanly to sizes with the same aspect ratio.
Check the composition
Different ratios show different parts of the artwork when cropped. Preview each format and adjust its crop, or fit the whole image with a border.
State what is included
List each ratio and the print dimensions it supports. Avoid promising sizes beyond the pixel resolution of the exported file.
The ratio names in this guide describe portrait orientation; landscape versions use the same numbers reversed. Square art stays 1:1 in either orientation. Exact frame openings and matting can vary, so buyers should measure their frames before printing.
What 300 DPI means for your Etsy print size chart
For image files, the relevant measure is pixels per inch (PPI). Print guides often call this DPI. To estimate the pixel dimensions for a 300 PPI print, multiply the width and height in inches by 300. For example, an 8 × 10 inch print needs 2,400 × 3,000 pixels at 300 PPI.
pixels = inches × 300
30 × 40 cm = 11.81 × 15.75 in ≈ 3,543 × 4,724 pixels at 300 PPI.
A larger pixel file can generally print at smaller sizes in the same ratio. A file with fewer pixels may still be usable for a smaller print, but enlarging it does not restore missing detail. The artwork, viewing distance, printer, paper, and print service also affect the final result, so 300 PPI is a useful target rather than a guarantee of perfect prints.
